Medical Care for Public School Native English speaking teachers in South Korea you will be provided national health care insurance. It is a 50/50 system and it is mandatory participation for all Public School teachers. Your monthly payment into the scheme is 5% (appox. $85 a month) and your school matches the other %5. Health care in South Korea is modern, accessible and reliable.
Before you are offered a position as a (ESL) Public School teacher you will need to provide a completed self medical check up statement. And before you are issued your ARC in South Korea from the immigration office you will need to pass full medical check up and HIV test. Please consult with your physician before committing to a one year contract in South Korea regarding any pre-existing medical condition or any medications you are currently receiving to make sure they are available to you in South Korea. Your national insurance provides comprehensive medical care excluding dental or elective (cosmetic) care at almost all hospitals and clinics and covers a large area of health concerns. For details of your coverage please refer to the package of information which your school will provide you upon arrival. Most staff at larger hospitals and clinics speak moderate English. Larger metropolitan areas have foreigner centered care centers where English is mandatory for staff. Pharmacies are common and are located on just about every block in South Korea and offer wide range of over the counter western medications as well as prescriptions. Pharmacies in South Korea offer a large variety of oriental types of medication as well. Be sure to consult with a physician before taking any medication.
